The Accounting Services team is an integral part of Sanoma Group Finance Control and provides accounting services to Sanoma’s Learning and Media operations. As a function we aim to provide scalable and high-quality accounting services, driving value from an end-to-end perspective. We want to be the go-to party for all local accounting related questions.

Our Finance function is going through a significant transformation program where we are implementing new finance systems and are reshaping our finance organization which includes the insourcing of accounting activities currently performed by a service provides in India.

Controller Accounting Services (Sanoma Learning BeNe)

The job
In this role you will be responsible for monthly accounting activities of Sanoma’s Learnings subsidiaries belonging to Malmberg Group (NL) and Uitgeverij Van In (BE). You will be senior member of the Group Accounting team Sanoma Learning BeNe. On a monthly basis you are performing accounting activities, resulting in a month-end closing process, eventually ensuring quality and timely reporting of the financial results in HFM. Apart from this you also ensure accounts are reconciled and key controls are performed. You support the tax area by preparing tax calculations and monthly VAT and other tax filings. You are responsible for preparing annual accounts and other local statutory reporting (i.e. CBS) and coordinate / support the audit. You are supported by Manager Accounting Services and collaborate closely with business stakeholders as well as other finance teams. 

In this role you get the chance to be part of interesting projects such as M&A and finance system implementation projects. Further, you play a key role in continuously improving and enhancing our local accounting, tax and reporting processes.

You have strong excel skills and know how to optimize finance systems and constantly look for continuous improvement of daily activities. You are quickly able to adapt to new processes and tools, can resolve any problem quickly and understand how to optimise our systems and ways of working.

Qualifications required

  • BSc/MSc degree in accounting and/or Finance;
  • A minimum of five years of experience in accounting or audit in an international company;
  • Strong knowledge of local GAAP and tax, basic IFRS knowledge considered a plus;
  • Knowledge of SAP;
  • VAT/Tax and reporting activities, especially those requiring local knowledge and presence;
  • HFM knowledge is a definite advantage, but not a must have;
  • Strong analytical and data optimization skills;
  • Proactive, Customer driven continuous improvement mindset;
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in English and Dutch;
  • Ability to build good relationships with stakeholders.
